YOUR DRUM MAKING FACILITATORS:

David Finkle – has been called a ‘Renaissance man’ of sorts. Proudly hailing from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory in southern Ontario, he is an award-winning multi-instrumental recording artist versed in many musical genres. He’s a traditional aboriginal instrument maker (hand making many of the instruments used in his music himself) as well as a storyteller, producer and native historian. He has completed many scores for various theatrical productions. David is also a highly sought after project facilitator for his popular traditional drum-making workshops and can be seen performing the festival circuit with both his multi-talented family (singers/dancers) as well as different musicians from many different cultural backgrounds.

Laura Leonard – is a woman of many talents, but perhaps is best known for her incredible works of fashion art. Laura’s family roots are Maliseet and Irish from New Brunswick, and she often draws on her heritage for inspiration for her work.

Laura specializes in contemporary fashion clothing and accessories utilizing traditional materials such as deerskin, shell, antler, and even intricate beadwork. Her creations run the gamut between traditional and modern, and she has created quite a following for her knee-high moccasins. Laura has been a featured designer in Ottawa’s Indigenous Fashion Show for the past three years. She has also taught workshops in various schools and community centres teaching beadwork, leather mitt making, and other leather crafts.
