Spring has sprung at Bark Lake
This was supposed to be posted last week. Due to tech-no-logic issues, namely WordPress not wanting to post things when I ask it so very nicely to, I will press Publish now. ~Joe
Spring has sprung at Bark Lake! If I look really hard out the window, I can almost see it through the raging blizzard currently enveloping our site… Okay, so maybe spring hasn’t gotten off to a great start, but the fact does remain, Spring will soon be upon us (provided of course that our very Canadian winter has not killed our Spring… which I am starting to wonder about).
Spring in general is an amazing time of the year; the season signifying renewal. Trees regain their leaves… flowers start to bloom… insects begin to buzz (okay, that sort of sucks, but you take the good with the bad)… and of course, most importantly (to me of course!) the new creatures emerge into the light. Yes, my friends, spring is the season of babies (awwwwwwww); a time of rapid growth, and the perpetuation of the species. Nature’s timing is incredible; everything breeds at the right time, allowing for the birth of the little ones to coincide with the friendliest weather conditions imaginable… some warm sunshine, and maybe some light rains. No real torrential storms; no excessive heat; no mind (and toe) numbing cold; it’s paradise for wildlife! The internal clocks present in wildlife (and yes… even in plants…) never ceases to amaze me; they just know how the seasons are going to be… and are always ready for it.
Why is this important? Well, within the next couple months, Bark Lake will play host to dozens… maybe hundreds… of families; each with their own fresh set of cute little chicks/cubs/kits/turklettes/whatever else they happen to be called… truly an incredible sight! Have you ever watched a flock of tiny geese follow their mom and dad around? How about a pack of turklettes following around their Dame? Or have you ever watched (later in the season of course) tiny, dollar-sized snapping turtles bursting out of the sand to make their trek to the marsh? These sights (and many… oh so many more) will be coming soon to a Bark Lake somewhat-near you… Are you coming?
